Cranberries are native to North America. Cranberries contain Proanthocyanidin, which is an “ultimate” antioxidant. Therefore, many people consider cranberries to be a superfood due to their high nutrient and antioxidant content.
Cranberries are usually harvested from September to October each year. The way to harvest this fruit is unique compared to other berries. Farmers often flood the farm with water then use a special machine to separate the fruit from the branch. Because of their light density, cranberries will float to the surface and form as a carpet of bright red, which are then collected to supply to the market or processed to become dried fruit.
Ripe cranberries have a sour taste that overwhelms sweetness as soon as they are ripe. This fruit can be used fresh, juiced, jam, or dried. In particular, dried products are very popular, because after reducing the amount of water, dried cranberries have a sweeter taste and are convenient to use.
